PROJECT DESCRIPTION


The partnership will involve cooperation between schools from Iceland, Norway, Estonia, Poland, Italy and Greece. The project will focus on pupils activities in the area of math, science, art and technology to raise their awareness of the need for saving natural resources in Europe. Pupils will learn about differences between partner countries, their climate, resources, ways of producing energy and using it in their homes in the past and at present. They will observe and collect information about their countries and inform partners about it. After each activity the results will be presented in the form of a report on a project web-site and evaluation will be done by pupils. They will compare homes in all countries in the aspect of ecology and natural environment and be encouraged to use constructive critical thinking as far as our future is concerned.
In the second year of the project pupils in each partner school will design an ideal eco-friendly home and make a model of it, using their creativity and innovation. They will try to show elements of local folklore and use the knowledge about possible sources of energy. Teachers will observe different methods of teaching math and science and exchange ideas of how to improve them to enhance pupils interest in these subjects. The communication between pupils will take place in English and with the use of ICT so they will develop their competence in both areas. The final product will be a joint "SMArt homes in Europe" catalogue created from each countries? ideas for ideal home published both in electronic and printed form with photographs of the models and basic technical data. Another product will be a joint multi-lingual dictionary of elementary vocabulary and phrases of scientific research and architecture.



 

DESCRIPTION OF PARTNERS

1. Vatnsendask?li K?pavogur IS

Vatnsendaskoli is a new school, only in its fifth year. The school is situated in nature paradise surrounding a big lake. The main focus of the school is on nature science and outdoor teaching. Students come from upper and middle class families. There are handicapped pupils and pupils with special needs at the school, all of them are integrated into regular classrooms. Vatnsendaskoli is the coordination school and will coordinate with all participants in relation to evaluation, schedules, agreed dates, deadlines and monitoring of progress on a regular basis.

2. Vingrom skole Vingrom NO

Vingrom school is situated in a rural district 10 km south of Lillehammer. The surroundings are appropriated to outdoor activities both in summer and winter. We have pupils with special needs and some immigrants. They are integrated in regular classes which are strengthened with more teachers/assistants. This year and the next we focus on how to motivate the pupils for better learning through better evaluation of their competence. The role of Vingrom school in the project is to be responsible for communication between schools and pupils which are participating in the project and also to gather and pass on information from project meetings to partner schools.

3. Szko?a Podstawowa nr 3 im. Janusza Korczaka Zielonka PL

Our school is a co-educational primary school for pupils aged 6 - 12 with some integrated classes where special needs pupils and disabled pupils are in classes with other pupils but the class is supported by an extra teacher. The school is located in a small town on the outskirts of the capital city Warsaw and with its 15 year history the school is the newest in town. Pupils come from families of varied material and social background, most parents work in Warsaw and commute. That is why a lot of pupils have to be taken care of after lessons at a school club which is open from 7.15 am till 5.00 pm. The school enjoys good reputation in the local community and aims at maintaining it. Our teachers are eager to know other educational systems and work with other teachers in order to share experiences and methods. The role of the school in this project is to be in charge of a common multi-lingual dictionary and keep it up to date.

4. Pelgulinna Gymnasium Tallinn EE

Our school is situated in Tallinn, which is the capital city of Estonia. Our school is the biggest school in the north region of Tallinn.  In our school students are in age 7- 19 years (704 students), it means different age of students are studying together. Our school is a general secondary school, but we have put lot of emphasis on art classes and our school is called ?art school?. Our students have the possibility to study different kind of art; painting, sculpture, design, architecture, sketching, mechanical drawing, computer design and graphics. As our school was newly renovated we got a quite big complex for industrial arts (wooden works and metalwork). Also we have a high level of computer classes. Our role as a partner in the project is to get to know how to use all our opportunities more effectively, motivate students to gather new knowledge and skills, be more aware of environmental issues and to become SMArt citizen of sustainable Estonia and Europe.

5. 2nd Primary School of Vrontados "Panagia Erithiani" ΒΡΟΝΤΑΔΟΣ GR

Our school is located in the east part of Greece next to the Greek ?Turkish borders, on an island called Chios, partly isolated from Athens the capital, which is the centre of educational development and research. Our teachers are in the need of getting to know other educational systems and work with other teachers in order to share experiences and methods. In our school there are some pupils with learning difficulties and there are also immigrants from Albania and Bulgaria, repatriots and also roma pupils. Our school is in the process of organizing environmental programmes about energy and archeological places and environment. In the project our school will design and publish a project newspaper over the phase of the project to promote the programme, to inform staff, teachers, parents and the local community about the Comenius project, its evolution and generally disseminate new ideas and the final products. In advance it will support the partnership by any means and help every activity to be carried out successfully with consideration of all deadlines.

6. Dir. Did. Circ. 87 Ada Negri Roma ? RM IT

Our school is a large institution consisting of three different buildings not far from each other and situated close to a very large park near the centre of the city. The park is used for different laboratory activities with the help of the association of the park operators. The whole institution is located in a densely inhabited area of different social class and immigrants too. There are handicapped and special needs pupils at our school that are integrated into regular classes. Pupils are aware of environmental issues and sensitive to the nature preservation and are very interested in researching, cooperating and exchange ideas with friends from other European countries. The role of this school in the project is to be responsible for creating a catalogue of SMArt homes in Europe in electronic and printed issue.
